How much do study abroad consultants charge in India? (2026 fee guide)
Real fee ranges Indian consultants charge by destination and service, what should be free, and the add-ons that appear after you pay the retainer.
The honest fee ranges
For Canada and UK files, most Indian consultants charge between ₹15,000 and ₹50,000 for a full application package. US files with heavy university shortlisting and SOP cycles often run ₹40,000 to ₹1,00,000. Germany files are usually cheaper because public universities have no tuition, but APS and blocked-account guidance is a separate line item. Anything below ₹10,000 for a "complete package" deserves suspicion, and anything above ₹1,50,000 needs a written justification.
Many agencies earn commissions from universities abroad, which is why some advertise "free counselling". Free is real when the university pays them. It becomes a problem when the consultant only pushes partner colleges instead of the best-fit ones. Ask directly: do you receive a commission from the universities you are recommending?
What should never cost extra
A first counselling call, a rough eligibility assessment, and a ballpark cost estimate for your destination should be free at any serious agency. The moment a consultant charges just to "check your profile", walk away.
The add-ons that appear later
The classic pattern: a low headline fee, then separate bills for SOP writing (₹3,000-₹10,000), visa filing (₹5,000-₹15,000), "priority" university applications, interview coaching, and education-loan assistance. Before you pay a retainer, demand a one-page written scope listing every included and excluded service. Compare that page across three consultants on Kohinooor before you sign anything.
